ABSTRACT: The lattice-induced strain of Nitinol is illustrated through a simple unit cell model to address the phase transformation from Austenite to Martensite.  The strain tensor from this model is projected to the original Austenite lattice reference system to provide the possible transformational strain magnitudes at various orientations.  Comparison of these values with the strain calculation based on the Taylor model is made and discussed.

Summary: The lattice-induced strain of Nitinol is illustrated through a simple unit cell model to address the phase transformation from Austenite to Martensite.
