Fatigue Study on Radiopaque Nitinol versus Nitinol Using Rotating Beam Fatigue Tester

Z. C. Lin, S. Wong, A. Tahran, Abbott Vascular Inc., Santa Clara, CA

Radiopaque nitinol and nitinol wire were tested for fatigue resistance using rotating beam fatigue tester for ultimate strain limit. Fatigue tests for processed wire are conducted above the austenite finish temperatures. The study determines that the fatigue resistances of both radiopaque nitinol and nitinol are a function of surface quality, inclusion content and the wire dimension.
