This study will cover the differences in the open circuit potential (OCP) of NiTi wires, with various surface finish, in blood (in-vivo) and a Phosphate Buffered Saline (in-vitro). The effect of soaking time and oxygen (aerated versus deaerated solution) on the rest potential (Er) will be discussed in more detail and the results will be correlated with the changes in the surface chemistry and the thickness of the protective layer. The results will be used to refine the established acceptance criteria for in-vitro corrosion testing.
