Precise phase transformation measurements can lead to optimized mechanical properties of shape memory alloys that is to achieve optimum stiffness and ductility. The proposed high-precision vision technology - a non-contact active Af temperature measuring system - is used to measure and characterize various forms, shapes and alloys.

Our study will investigate the use of the high-precision vision technology to determine local Af temperature within medical devices having zones of distinct forces and varying transformation temperatures (archwires), long peripheral devices (braided stents) and miniature neurovascular implants; and also enable phase transformation measurement of ultrafine shape memory actuating fibers (10-100 microns).
