Effects during the Starting Period of the MIG Process

G. Huismann, University of the federal armed forces Hamburg, Hamburg, Germany

View in PDF format

Summary: The MIG process showed large disturbances during the start phase. In modern power sources manipulation of the current is done. Unfortunately the contact resistance feeds high power near to the contact tip into the wire. Therefore, high currents can lead to melting far above the arc. The behavior was analyzed by experiment and modeling.
