A New Methodology for Studying Phase Transformations in High Srength Steel Weld Metal

B. T. Alexandrov, The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH; J. C. Lippold, Welding Engineering Program, Ohio State University, Columbus, OH

View in WORD format

Summary: A research on phase transformations in multipass weld metal of an E11018 electrode is presented. The phase transformations in the as-solidifying and heat-affected weld layers are monitored in situ by newly developed methodology. The range of welding conditions providing optimal microstructure with respect to weldability and mechanical properties is determined.
