Dynamic Response of Friction Stir Welding Forces and Relationship to Weld Quality

W. Arbegast, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, Rapid City, SD

View in WORD format

Summary: Friction Stir Welding process forces undergo dynamic oscillations characteristic of the periodicity in metal flow patterns. Analysis of the frequency of these oscillations is correlated to weld quality and the tendency to produce volumetric defects within the FSW.
