Summary: Welds have been fabricated in ASTM A36 steel plate by gas metal arc welding at different heat inputs that allowed us to examine the consequence of a subsequent weld pass on prior weld beads. Hardness has been calculated in both regions of phase transformations and tempering by a subsequent pass and agrees well with experimental measurements.
