Predictions of TIG Weld Depth using a Unified Electrode-Arc-Workpiece Treatment

J. J. LOWKE, CSIRO, Sydney, Australia; M. TANAKA, M. USHIO, Osaka University, Osaka, Japan

View in WORD format

Summary: Two dimensional predictions have been made of temperature profiles of the arc, electrode and work-piece for stationary TIG arcs. Increases in weld depth of over a factor of two are predicted for different surface tension properties of the weld pool or if an insulating layer exists on the weld pool.
