Summary: The kinetics of the austenite to ferrite transformation in a 2205 duplex stainless steel during weld heating was examined using a combination of a numerical diffusion model and in-situ x-ray diffraction experiments. The effect of non-uniform microstructures on the transformation kinetics was quantitatively investigated.
