Summary: Factors affecting ferrite transformation on oxides are investigated by making oxide thin films of TiO, MgO, CaO, and Al2O3 on steel by electron-beam deposition. The ferrite formation from these oxides is examined, and the discussions are made from the viewpoint of the lattice misfit and Mn depletion theories.
