Summary: Physical simulations and small scale testing were used to characterize fusion- and solid-state weldability of multiphase AHSS sheet steels. The effects of shielding gas quality on weld properties are presented for several fusion- and solid-state welding processes. The results are expected to extend AHSS use by the automotive industry.
