Summary: Double-sided arc welding is a newly developed arc process which can eliminate angular distortion and penetrate ½ in. thick plate. It also reduces weld width, heat input, and buckle distortion. Research has made it promising for shipbuilding through proving its suitability for DH-36, improving control algorithm, and simplifying its operation.
