Summary: Thermodynamics and kinetics assessment of secondary austenite precipitation phenomenon during multipass welding of UNS S32304 DSS was made by using the Calphad method. The implemented model is able to compute both the secondary austenite precipitation kinetics and chemical composition profiles in the microstructure, as a function of reheating time and temperature. The results have improved the understanding of this material microstructural evolution and service performance.
