Summary: Base materials of austenitic stainless steels used in the processing, packaging and transport of hydrogen isotopes have been fairly well characterized. However, the weldments of these materials have not been characterized. This paper describes work to hydrogen and tritium expose weld microstructures and characterize their fracture behavior.
