Summary: Layered manufacturing of metallic parts has many advantages. One benefit is the ability to make spare or replacement parts. For the technology to move from prototyping to manufacturing, it needs to be reliable. Our microstructural and inverse model thermal analyses of overlapped reinforced weld beads that make up the layered structure should advance these manufacturing goals.
