Summary: Micro-scale welding has been successfully demonstrated using a Scanning Electron Microscope-based Electron Beam Welding (S-EBW) technique. SEM modifications, specific S-EBW process parameters, e-beam diagnostics, thermal models employed, current(s)-material interaction volumes are discussed. S-EBW process characterization techniques will be related to macrosize EBW and Laser Beam characterization methodologies.
