Summary: This paper presents experimental results towards understanding the factors that influence wire feedability in gas metal arc welding. Full-scale experiments were conducted to determine the effect of material combination, wire feed speed, and diameter clearances towards overall wire feeding forces and the potential of the welding wire to birdnest and/or buckle.
