Summary: Inertia welds were fabricated using Fe-Ni-Cr ternary alloys with varying Creq/Nieq ratios and predicted ferrite numbers. Weld microstructure, thermodynamically calculated phase diagrams, and Gleeble simulations were correlated to the resulting weld microstructures. Retained ferrite content was found to be both parameter and composition dependent.
