Fatigue and Residual Stress Responses of Welded Piping Joints

A. E. Humpherys, T. Hassan, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC; C. R. Hubbard, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge, TN

View in WORD format

Summary: Strain ratcheting response at the weld toe area is demonstrated to influence fatigue failure of welded piping joints. With the anticipation that weld residual stress might be responsible for initiating such failure, strain and residual stress responses are studied for exploring the failure mechanism.
