Summary: Super duplexes offer some incredible advantages over more traditional stainless steels. There downfall often comes in the way of weldability. This paper provides some insight into the mechanisms controlling duplex weld metal microstructures. By combining real-world welds and Gleeble simulation, a more encompassing description of high temperature nucleation is available.
