The Measurement of Residual Stresses in Highly Restrained Steel Butt Welds

S. Pearce, V. Linton, University of Adalaide, Adelaide, Australia; G. W. Sloan, Australian Submarine Corporation, Adelaide, Australia

View in WORD format

Summary: Residual stress levels are important when calculating the resistance of a weld to failure. To better predict the stresses produced in restrained welds blind hole drilling, neutron strain scanning and dynamic stress measurements will be used to begin construction of an FEA model of the weld residual stresses.
