Over the past few decades, Hearth melting technologies have enabled utilization of low cost raw materials significantly impacting the cost and quality of Titanium alloys. Along with existing Plasma Arc Melting (PAM) furnaces, RTI has recently commissioned and implemented into production an Electron Beam (EB) furnace. This presentation will provide a brief overview of the capacities and capabilities of RTI’s cold hearth furnaces. An overview of the selection, sorting, cleaning and preparation of the recycled material (revert and machining turnings) will be briefly presented.  The challenges with recycling raw materials and their impact on quality including chemistry control will also be discussed.
