Thermal Conductivity of Plasma and EBPVD Thermal Barrier Coatings

A. Feuerstein, A. Bolcavage, Praxair Surface Technologies, Inc., Indianapolis, IN

Thermal barrier coatings with a variety of microstructures have been prepared with plasma spray deposition and EBPVD. Thermal diffusivity has been measured with the laser flash method. The calculated thermal conductivity results are compared wtih the microstructural properties of the coatings. The effect of bondcoat roughness is investigated.
