Metallurgical evaluation of a fractured alloy 718 turbine disk from a commercial engine and follow-on characterization work related to the event.

The presentation covers the key metallurgical findings of how the disk fractured. The fracture initiated from a discrete dirty white spot formed during the melt process and describes some of the follow-on characterization work of additional disks made from the same alloy to aid in root cause determination and field containment plans.
