The Truth, the Whole Truth, and Nothing but the Truth...regarding Depositions

A deposition is part of the discovery phase of a legal proceeding. Depositions are part of both the criminal and civil justice system. We as failure analysts are called upon on occasion to give expert witness testimony. Depositions are the vehicle by which the opposing side gets to find out your opinions and the basis for those opinions under oath. Your deposition testimony is the same as if you were sitting in a courtroom with the jury present. This presentation will discuss the process of depositions, the parties involved in depositions, how depositions are conducted, what to do when you receive a Duces Tecum or notice to take your deposition, and how to prepare for and give deposition testimony as an expert witness.
