The field of additive manufacturing is fast evolving on multiple fronts, which can be summarised as advances in understanding of the process reliability and repeatability going in parallel to industrial adoption from the growing heritage of data and business cases. With respect to laser powder bed fusion, the cost effectiveness balance remains liked with processing time, post-processing time and obtained properties relationships. Interestingly, the unique layer-by-layer approach is allowing our creativity to open new cost-effective opportunities, which can be viewed as “Advanced Additive Manufacturing” breaks. In this presentation, some of these advances including crystallographic control and printing engineering strategies will be showcased to and link to the above mentioned cost effectiveness paradigm.
