Railway Transportation is one of the oldest methods of carrying freight and passengers. Traditional alloys like steels have been used for decades for manufacturing rails, wheels, fasteners and other components. Over time, trains and track infrastructure have improved which has led to advancement in rails, rail welds and wheels. This session includes presentations on the research that has been done on steels used in railroad applications and how that has led to better operations, higher load bearing capacities of trains and fewer derailments caused by rail and wheel failures.
