Rollers which are composed mainly of carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) are called “Carbon rollers”.   Carbon rollers have great advantages over metal rollers, such as light weight, low inertia, less deflection, and high natural frequency.   Today, carbon rollers have been intergraded into industrial machinery such as film, paper, and printing.   When carbon rollers are used in paper making machine, there are two important techniques to give the best performance.   One is the roller manufacturing technique.   To achieve stable rotation at ultrahigh-speed, the marginal roller-balance adjustment is required.   And the other is the roller surface treatment technique.   High speed moving paper surface is a kind of abrasive, so the high abrasion resistance of roller surface is a key.   Thermal spraying gives a solution to the problem.   The developed dual-partitioning 5.4m length thermal sprayed carbon roller has installed in a paper slitter/rewinder, and moving stably at ultrahigh speed.
