Coating of hard powder materials on hard substrate using kinetic spray technique has been difficult phenomena. In this study, Cermets (MoB/NiCr and MoB/CoCr) and CoMoCr alloy were deposited on a bond coated hard substrate (SKD61) using kinetic spray coating technique. Microstructural, mechanical and thermal characterization of the coatings was carried out using SEM, XRD, pin-on-disc, and DSC etc. The results showed that CoMoCr alloy displayed the highest deposition efficiency along with microstructural and thermal properties, whereas, MoB/NiCr demonstrated the highest mechanical properties. The coatings were tested for soldering resistance by immersion of coated cylinders in molten aluminium alloy bath. MoB/CoCr displayed superior soldering resistance among the coatings.
