ABSTRACT

These days, there is a need of material with very high wear resistance, in order to satisfy industrial requirement. Wear reduce the life of any machine part, by far the greatest wear problem occur in the thermal power plant nozzle of boiler for feeding the coal. The material used for the nozzle is low carbon steel, SS304, SS304L, SS310.

In this present research it is planned to improve the wear behavior of SS-310 and SS- 304 by deposits alloy on these materials by hard facing. Chromium based nickel alloys are deposited on the SS304 and SS310 steel by manual metal arc welding process and behavioral characterization has been for the deposited alloy. Micro hardness, Micro structural and energy dispersive spectroscopy analysis has been done for studying the samples. The results revealed that deposited hard facing alloy revealed good bonding with both the substrate steels.
