Abstract

Plastic powder such as Nylon and Polyethylene are well known as thermal spray powder to fabricate the coating which has chemical resistance, water resistance, low friction and so on. There are few results of thermal spraying of plastic composite powder, however, it is considered that there are potential applications regarding thermal spraying of plastic composites.

To investigate the potential of thermal spraying of plastic composites, thick coating technology by using cold spray for plastic composites were developed. In this study, it became clear that Al2O3-50vol%PPS (poly phenyl sulfide) can be deposited thick coating by DYMET/OCPS without residual heat treatment. Features of the plastic composite coating by using low pressure cold spray are dense, high uniformity of plastic and ceramic, hard. Compared with plastic and plastic composite, plastic composite coating is more than twice harder than plastic coating.
