Effects of Surface Microstructure of Copper on Surface Energy after Pulse Nd:YAG Laser Irradiation

Z. Zhao, C. Wang, M. Li, Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin, China

Laser surface treatment effect on surface energy of copperplate was investigated in terms of the microstructure in surface layer in this paper. The surface of copperplate was treated with different laser power using a Nd:YAG pulse laser, the microstructural characteristics and wettability of the surface of copperplate were determined using optical microscopy, X-Ray diffraction techniques and wetting experiment. And the results showed that the surface microstructure has been changed regularly with the increase of the laser power. Furthermore, the surface energy of copper surface was affected by surface laser irradiation. Further analysis of XRD and theoretical calculation demonstrated that the preferred crystal direction in surface layer was the real reason of the changes in surface energy, and the surface energy changes regularly according to the laser power.
