Recent progress in the enhancement of the schema for MatML, the extensible markup language for materials information, and in the development of an OASIS specification for MatML will be covered along with some background on MatML’s basis and original development. The focus of this presentation will be MatML schema Version 3.1, which went into place earlier this year, and on work initiated in 2003 on an OASIS specification for MatML. At the time of preparation of this abstract, a first draft OASIS specification is expected to be submitted during the Summer of 2004, and will be the basis of extensive testing and trials by the OASIS community. We will also address some new issues that could further expand the application of MatML. These efforts are the work of the Schema Development and OASIS Specification Working Groups of the MatML Coordination Committee, whose other activities will also be briefly reviewed.
Summary: The development of MatML, the extensible materials markup language, will be discussed, with the principal focus being upon (a) the development of Version 3.1 of the MatML schema, and (b) the initiation of effort to produce an OASIS specification for MatML. An update on other activities of the MatML Coordination Committee will also be covered.
