  APPLICATIONS Ц ISEC 2005 Session Abstract: Advances in biomedical technology and regenerative medicine affects the lives of millions of people worldwide. The Biomedical Applications session describes how advances made in the area of surface engineering contribute to our understanding for improving the lives of patients who require medical treatments for a variety of conditions. Session Description: Advances in biomedical technology and regenerative medicine affects the lives of millions of people worldwide. The Biomedical Applications session describes how advances made in the area of surface engineering contribute to our understanding for improving the lives of patients who require medical treatments for a variety of conditions. Biomedical applications of surface engineering materials are dependent up the contact conditions between contacting sliding surfaces. Bio-tribology is the science of friction, wear, and lubrication of biomaterials. The bio-tribology aspect of biomedical engineering will focus on issues such as the wear of biomaterials, modeling of total knee replacements, engineered surfaces of artificial joints, replacement joint materials, and the application of bio-coatings using lasers.
