Summary: In this study, Multi Layer AlTiN thin film coatings by arc physical vapor deposition technique are investigated. AlTiN thin film coatings were applied on the 1,3343 High Speed Steel (HSS) samples which were heat treated before coating. We examined friction and wear behaviour AlTiN coatings widely used in industrial with multi layer AlTiN (30,100,150 layered) coatings depending on change in layer amount. The coating thicknesses, surface roughness, adhesion test and microhardnesses were also determined. Friction and wear behaviours were examined by frettings experimental test. Friction and wear (abrasion) results were determined SEM (Scaning Electron Microscope) analysis and optical microscope analysis were performed.
