The Role of Autocorrelation Length in Adhesive Friction — Contact Modeling and Surface Processing

Y. Zhang, S. Sundararajan, Iowa State University of Science and Technology, Ames, IA

View in PDF format

Summary: A relationship between the autocorrelation length (ACL) and the friction behavior of a rough surface is presented. The relationship is verified via experiments on silicon surfaces using atomic force microscopy and microtribometry. A method to generate rough silicon urfaces with a designed ACL is also outlined.
