Summary: An UHMWPE sample is soaked in bovine serum for various durations and its interfacial shear strength is evaluated using atomic force mciroscopy. Changes in friction of the surface are also verified via microscale friction measurements obtained using a custom-built microtribometer. Mechanisms for observed changes in friction behavior are discussed.
