S057-002 Memory and Neurology Clinics as Entree into Care for Dementia

Donald Wills, Chief, Section of Neurology, Chief, Section of Neurology, Sacred Heart Hospital, Allentown, PA, USA

In the community, neurology and memory clinics accept patients with surprising dense defects in cognitive function late in their clinical course. The marketing of such clinics to the community allows families access to assessment of neurological deficits earlier towards possible better outcomes clinically. Routine aging does not include memory loss and that effort comes from the neurologic leadership of the team. Access to high level neurosurgery, research protocols for medication trials and access to advanced imaging at this community hospital makes it possible to define the cognitive deficits or neurological loss early and remedial. Fee for service PET, MRA, MRI and CT augment the EEG, neuroradiology, sleep evaluation center and other diagnostic tests available in this community hospital diagnostic center.
