PC-032 Dominican Elderly Abuse: Comparative Study 1994/2002

Objective: The present study was developed in the city of Santo Domingo with a sample of 300 elderly persons who willingly participated. Describing the physical,verbal, and sexual abuse.

Design: Based on the studies made in 1994 we decided to realize a comparative study in the year 2002 and to develop a study that is exploratory and descriptive.

Materials and Methods: Interview guidelines were developed for the study. These guidelines cover abuse of the elderly, including physical, verbal, and sexual abuse.

Results: The study reflected a significant difference between the year 1994 and 2002, which establishes recommendations and conclusions for new studies which may provide explanations for this social problem which affects Dominican society.

Conclusion: There are differences between the elderly abuse of the year 1994 and 2002.
