Elizabeth Rimmer, Alzheimer's Disease International, London, United Kingdom

Objective: To encourage participants to support World ALzheimer's Day September 21 2003 and beyond.

Design: Alzheimer's Disease International (ADI) is an umbrella organization of 64 Alzheimer associations throughout the world, whose main purpose is to encourage new Alzheimer associations and raise awareness about dementia.

Materials and Methods: World Alzheimer's Day, 21 September each year is celebrated by ADI members. ADI coordinates World Alzheimer's Day by providing a theme and publicity materials for Alzheimer associations worldwide. This year's theme is 'Perfect Partnership' which will highlight the importance of establishing a good relationship between the person with dementia, their carer and the doctor, to ensure the best possible care for the person with dementia. It is recognized that doctors have limited time to spend with each patient. By helping patients to prepare for visits to the doctor, this enables them to make the best use of time and ensure an effective visit. The presentation will give an overview of World Alzheimer's Day 2003, highlights of the activities taking place and how participants can become involved.

Results: To encourage participants to support World Alzheimer's Day and become involved in their Alzheimer association

Conclusion: To build international awareness of Alzheimer's Disease International and the vital role Alzheimer associations play worldwide.
