Objective:We examined the correlation between the severity of Alzheimer type of dementia(AD) patients and each cognitive function in this study.

Design:this study was to compared and examined the correlation between the cognitive function tests, which are the sub-scales of each cognitive function and the clinical severity of AD patients.

Materials and Methods:The subjects were 28 cases (8 males and 20 females) of AD outpatients who came to our hospital specialty. We compared and examined the correlation between the cognitive function tests, which are the sub-scales of each cognition function such as Revised Hasegawa's Dementia Scale (HDS-R), Benton Visual Retention Test, Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) and Jikei University type Dementia Screening Scale, and clinical severity using Functional Assessment Staging (FAST).

Results:It was indicated that there was a strong correlation between the function of orientation, delayed recall, visuo-spatial cognition and the clinical severity.

Conclusion:: It was suggested that the diagnosis of severity is easily possible by focusing on the subscales of cognitive function tests, which enable the diagnosis of severe AD patients.
