PB-103 Maximizing and Maintaining Function for Persons with Alzheimer's Disease Using Non-Pharmacologic Methods

Kim Warchol, Dementia Care Specialists, Inc., Itasca, IL, USA

Participants will be able to: 1. Identify various problems that interfere with the ability for the long-term care team to identify and maintain maximum functional levels of the resident with Alzheimer's disease and related dementia, that often leads to "excess disability" 2. Understand a model that can identify if maximum functional potential may be greater than the person's current documented MDS level of function 3. Understand how the Theory of Retrogenisis and The Allen Cognitive Disabilities theory can be used by occupational, physical and speech therapy to evaluate and treat chronic, progressive dementia to maximize and maintain function 4. Understand the role of the interdisciplinary long-term care team in the evaluation and maintenance program process.
