This presentation will highlight (1) the need for meaningful oversight from both IRBs and DSMBs for research involving vulnerable subjects. And, (2) the need to ensure that the regulatory and oversight mechanisms will not be so burdensome as to stifle important research. Both are important, yet as regulatory and oversight mechanisms are improving the protection of research subjects, they are becoming ever more frustrating for researchers engaged in in studies involving human subjects.
