S062-007 Service Delivery

The service the elderly is given is depending of many structures. The frail elderly are troublesome and costly; the need of care increases much in the middle stage of the dementia diseases. It is not normally in memory problem that leads to some service give but the decline in ADL functions. Every country has special rules and regulations. The service given is also depending of the local culture. How private is a home? If you are elderly are you allowed to hospital treatment? How is the service paid? Does the area have nursing homes or some sheltered living. Are there rules and laws that regulate the level of service provided.

In some countries we have a law of the patient’s rights. The patient’s autonomy can be so important and in contrast to the patients dignity. In some cases this will lead to neglect and a risk of squalor
