Carlos Augusto De Medonca Lima, Service Universitaire de Psychogeriatrie, Prilly-Lausanne, Switzerland

W.P.A. and W.H.O. have recently published jointly with several other NGOs, including IPA, 4 consensus statements on Psychiatry of the Elderly. The first one concerned general aspects of the discipline (1). The second one was related to the organization of care (2) and the third one pointed the main issues related to education in this discipline (3). A 4th consensus meeting was held at Lausanne on October 2001 in order to prepare the last statement as a follow up of the World Health Day and World Health Report 2001. The subject was related to the main goal of the World Health Day: Stop Exclusion, Dare to Care. The statement (4), was approved by WHO and the WPA General Assembly during the last World Congress of Psychiatry (Yokohama 2002). The author will present these statements for the participants of the Congress of IPA as well the main developments planned using them as start point.
