S033-001 Spanish Consensus in Dementia

Manuel Martin-Carrasco, Clínica Padre Menni, Pamplona, Spain

During the past years, several guidelines and practice parameters documents on Alzheimer's disease and related dementias have been published. In 2001, the Spanish Psychiatric Society published its Consensus Guidelines for the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of dementias of late life, emphasizing the role of psychiatrists in the field, and adapting up-to-date international practices to Spain. The document was developed after extensive literature review and with input from experts in the field who served on advisory boards and task forces or as reviewers. This presentation reviews and synthesizes information from this guideline, reviews the most recent findings in the literature relative to dementia, and makes policy recommendations based on identification of gaps with respect to patient and caregiver education, financing of care, and research needs, from a Spanish point of view.
