S036-004 Cultivating a Career in Geriatric Psychiatry in the Midwest

Susan Schultz, University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA, USA

Dr. Schultz will discuss her career development as a geriatric psychiatrist at the University of Iowa. Beginning with a research fellowship in the Neurobiology of Schizophrenia and developing her research program under the guidance of the SRI and a variety of mentors, Dr. Schultz conducts studies in the psychiatric sequelae of dementia. She will discuss the challenges in developing new research programs in institutions that do not already have depth in geriatric psychiatry, as well as balancing clinical and research obligations.
