Summary:
High-resolution imaging or highly targeted surface processing tools likely constitute the lion’s share of both the physical floor space and the investment cost in a modern analytical laboratory. A lot of time and effort is expended working through the technical justification, selection, purchase, factory acceptance and installation of this class of equipment to address the needs of each successive process node. And yet too many of these capital investments reportedly result in a less than stellar overall outcome. Why is it so difficult to get a new tool to excel in the lab the same way it performed during the demo and factory acceptance evaluation? Too often the main culprit turns out to be the lab space itself. In this tutorial we will attempt to educate on site selection, interpretation of the site survey, problem mitigation techniques, and how to sell a complete package of tool and lab space preparation to management.
